Former Sedona Red H.S. Student receives Sierra Club award

SEDONA, AZ (June 16, 2009) - The Sierra Club Verde-Valley Group is proud to announce that Ciera Crawley, a recent graduate of Sedona Red Rock High School, has won its first annual "Earth Steward Excellence Award."

This fall Ciera will be attending the University of Arizona Honors Program as a double-major in Political Science and Spanish.

Ms. Crawley completed a Sedona Red Rock High School Senior Exhibition Project consisting of written and oral presentations concerning the ill effects of styrofoam production and disposal and possible environmental substitutes.

Her presentation successfully convinced the Sedona Oak Creek School Board to eliminate the use of styrofoam trays in the school district's cafeterias and replace them with environmentally friendly 100% recycled paperboard.

Ciera will receive her award at the Sierra Club's annaul Chapter gathering on July 11 at Crescent Moon Park picnic area at 6:00 pm. Congratulations to Ciera and the school board.
