City of Sedona Noise Ordinance

Letter to the Editor:
It's 4:18 in the morning, and the crashing on the ground of an empty dumpster has just awakened me - for the umpteenth time in the past year.  Another crash reverberates through the valley, as I silently fume about the City Council's overall attitude and underlying policy of pampering the whims of business at the expense of the well-being of us citizens.

This utter disregard is epitomized by its noise ordinance, which prohibits decibel levels about 60 from 7am-10pm and above 50 from 10pm-7am...with a major caveat.  The CIty Council has exempted the two regular offenders - mobile garbage trucks and airplanes.

So why bother having a noise ordinance?  To quiet down an occasional late-night party?  At least the City Council could and should limit the times of these companies' operations.  No activity before 7am on weekdays and 8am on the weekends.

Sedona is not New York City where the side streets are packed with cars.  Garbage trucks can still freely manuveur around the streets during the day.

Instead of working 4am-1pm, the operators could work 7am-4pm and pilots could wait until a reasonable hour before take-off; so more people could sleep through the night without being woken up by crashing dumpsters or soaring airplanes.

All I'm asking is that the City Council be more considerate of the people whom they are supposedly representing.  If you too are tired of being woken up by crashing dumpsters, please contact the City Council.
