Sedona, AZ (August 27, 2009) - It's a good thing there's no physical roof sheltering the poets and their audience at the Poets Corner - this Friday, there might be trouble. On September 4th at 4pm at the Sedona Arts Center Sculptor Garden (aka Poets Corner) Carol Haralson of Sedona and Frank O'Brien of Flagstaff; both award winning poets in our northern Arizona community.
Since childhood, Carol Haralson has folded a love of language into both work and play. At 27, while she was working as chief of publications at an art museum and moonlighting as a Poet in the Schools, she won the first national Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry. Since 1992 she has been a busy independent editor, designer, and producer of books, but she took a partial break in recent years to study with the Buddhist writers of Naropa University in Boulder.
Although Carol produces books of all sorts, especially art books, she is also a passionate cook who loves designing and editing cookbooks. Sedonans may know this side of her through The Heartline Cafe Cookbook, Arizona Eats!, Sharing the Table at Garland's Lodge, and The Elote Cafe Cookbook(due out this month). "Cooking, poetry, and book design," she says, "are all forms of translation."
Frank O'Brien is a poetand a native born Arizonan, currently residing in Flagstaff, AZ. In 2007 he discovered that spoken word shows are one of those rare circumstances under which thinking too much is actually a gift --he has written and performed ever since. Frank was one of five poets on TeamFlagSlam which placed 16th out of 68 teams this year at the National Poetry Slam in West Palm Beach Florida. When not performing or waiting tables, he is a full time student at Coconino Community College.
We are honored to be performing at the Sedona Arts Center. But if the monsoons kick in (and let's hope they do) then we will be inside giving you some of the best poetry you've ever heard. And as always, Poets Corner is free and open to the public. Hosted by Christopher Lane. For more information about the Sedona Arts Center and the Poets Corner please call 928.828.3908.
