City of Sedona Request: Flash Flooding Debris Removal

The City knows this is a difficult time for residences and businesses as we recover from the effects of the flooding experienced last week.  While much progress has been made in an effort to ensure that clean up operations do not worsen the already impacted drainage system, many washes, culverts and other drainage areas are still clogged with mud and debris.   As we continue to move forward with the clean up, the City is asking for your help.

You can help in the efforts to restore the drainage system and help minimize future flooding.  Please do not dispose of mud and debris in washes, culverts and other drainage areas.  Mud and debris in washes and drainage areas can contribute to future flooding.  Do not dump or throw anything into the washes and drainage areas.  Doing so not only reduces the effectiveness of Sedona's drainage system but also has the potential to reach and negatively impact the waters of Oak Creek.

Pick up debris and fallen branches and dispose of them in designated dumpsters.  The City is locating dumpsters in affected areas for this purpose.  While mud can be placed in these dumpsters, due to extreme weight of mud and the limited ability of dumpsters to handle this weight, the City is requesting to the greatest extent possible that the mud be placed on the edge of the street.  Street crews will then periodically remove it during cleanup operations.  If you see mud, debris or other obstructions in washes, culverts and other drainage areas call the City's flood hotline at (928) 203-5111 and leave a report.

If you need to rebuild your drainage areas, please contact the City to determine if a permit is required.  A permit may be needed to ensure that such projects are constructed properly and do not cause additional problems.  The City is looking to temporarily waive permit fees associated with any cleanup and reconstruction efforts associated with flood damage.  For additional information about permits, cleanup efforts, dumpster locations or to report flood related issues or clogged drainage channels, contact the City at (928) 282-1154 or leave a message at (928) 203-5111.
