The City of Sedona Parks and Recreation is proud to announce another great season of Grasshopper Basketball! Whether you are a coach or a player, we offer a fun and exciting season for all who participate in this league. This is a low-pressure league with an emphasis placed on teaching children the rules and fundamentals of basketball. Each child will receive their own jersey with their team name on the front that they will keep at the end of the season.
Registration is being accepted at the Parks and Recreation office beginning November 2, 2009 and running through November 21, 2009. The league fee is $35, or $40 for late registration. If you sign up two children the fee will be discounted to $32 for the second sibling. You can sign up at the Parks and Recreation office, 102 Roadrunner Drive, or print a Registration Form off our website at www.SedonaAZ.gov to fill out and mail in with payment. When filling out the registration form, please include the participant's grade level and school.
Registration will also be accepted at the pre-season basketball clinics. It is important for children to attend the clinics so that they can be properly placed on a basketball team. The pre-season clinic for Grades 1-4 will take place on November 7 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. The clinic for Grades 5-7 will take place November 14 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
The league will run December 8, 2009 - March 13, 2010. Opening Day is January 9, 2010. Practice will take place from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Grades 1-2 will practice on Tuesdays, Grades 3-4 on Wednesdays, and Grades 5-7 on Thursdays.
Coaches Needed for Grasshopper Basketball
The City of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department is looking for people interested in volunteering their time a few nights a week and Saturday mornings to coach a youth basketball team. We will have three divisions of play. The first division will be made up of children in the 1st and 2nd grades. The second division will be made up of children in the 3rd and 4th grades. The third division will be made up of children in the 5th through 7th grades. Objectives of the program are to develop fair play and sportsmanship, develop skills in basketball and to have fun! Officials Needed for Grasshopper Basketball
The City of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department needs energetic, positive individuals with basketball experience to officiate over our Grasshopper Basketball League. It is a great opportunity to help mold these children into positive athletes with good sportsmanship attitudes. Officials will be needed for a possible of 4-5 games on Saturdays. Please be available to complete the entire season from January 9, 2010 - March 13, 2010. Pay is $10+ per hour DOE.
