Keep Sedona Beautiful invites all residents and local organizations to submit nominations for its Annual Awards. Each year since 1972, the Keep Sedona Beautiful organization has recognized individuals, businesses and organizations in the Greater Sedona area for architectural designs, landscaping and community service which contribute in a significant way to its goal of "Preserving the Wonder" of Sedona. The deadline for nominations is Friday November 6.
There are several different categories. New or redesigned buildings will be judged on the basis of their harmony with the natural environment, beyond what is required by municipal or county regulations. KSB believes that the scenic beauty of Sedona should be protected, and that the built environment should never compete for attention with our natural surroundings, day or night.
Outdoor lighting, signage and landscaping will be judged by the same standards. Single-family homes are not usually considered for these awards, however Single-family homes will be considered for these awards if there is an exceptional innovation in environmental construction.
Special attention will be given to major improvements in existing buildings, including changes to lighting and signage which previously did not conform to these standards. Innovations in environmentally-sensitive building, native low-water-use landscaping and elimination of non-conforming signs will be considered as well.
Additionally, Community Service Awards will be made for outstanding contribution to the community by individuals, businesses and organizations.
Residents should send nominations in writing prior to November 6, using a form which is available on the website, www.keepsedonabeautiful.org, or by writing to Keep Sedona Beautiful Inc., 360 Brewer Road, Sedona, AZ 86336. The KSB Awards Committee will visit each nominated site, and meet with selected nominees.
Winners will be honored at a special KSB 36th Anniversary Awards luncheon at Los Abrigados Resort on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2009. For more information visit www.keepsedonabeautiful.org or call 282-4938.
