Sedona Historical Society Receives Four New Grants

The Sedona Historical Society (SHS) was recently honored with several new grants that will help further its mission and services.

First, the Sedona Community Foundation (SCF) gave the Society and their Sedona Heritage Museum a grant to add heaters to the historic fruit packing shed.  These heaters will allow use of this large community space for more events during more seasons of the year.  The SCF has been a long-time supporter of the Museum's work.

Second, the Arizona Historical Society (AHS) gave the Society a grant to purchase new technology for digitization, archival materials for the safe and proper storage of historic documents and artifacts, and the transcription of oral histories.  The Museum was very lucky to receive full funding of their AHS grant request in light of the state's funding issue this year.

Third, the Tucson Quilters Guild has provided funds for archival materials and the proper storage of SHS's quilts.  These quilts belonged to Sedona area pioneers and are part of SHS's permanent collection of local artifacts.

And finally, the Soroptimists of Sedona gave a generous parting gift as they dissolved their local chapter after decades of service and generosity in the community.

These four grants are critical for long-term preservation of the Society's collection and to facilitate educational and visitor experiences at the Museum.

The Sedona Historical Society operates the Sedona Heritage Museum on the Jordan Farmstead at 735 Jordan Rd in Uptown Sedona, AZ.  The Museum is open daily at 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  For more information about membership, volunteer opportunities or the museum, call 928-282-7038.
