Durkee-Baenziger Holiday Open Art Studio
Dee Durkee, fiber and paper arts, and Peter Baenziger, landscape photography, announce their 5th annual Holiday Open Studio in West Sedona on Friday and Saturday, December 4th and 5th, from 11-5 pm each day.

This weekend, the husband and wife team will be showing and selling work at their West Sedona studio.  This year, they are specializing in regional gifts for $25 and under, including Journals, Photo Albums, All-Occasion Greeting cards, Bath Salts, Natural Moth-Away Sachets, jewelry, and of course, fiber-collage vessels and wall hangings, matted photos, & gouache paintings of beautiful area landscapes.  New this year are Hand-Dyed Tissue Wrapping Papers, which can be used to create a spectacular gift presentation, in paper art projects, or framed as a piece of art in-and-of itself.

Durkee"s "green" fiber-collage vessels are constructed from repurposed upholstery and material scraps.   Multiple overstitching with colorful threads on layered fabrics form a visual and textural feast for the eye and hand.  Dee"s self-supporting vessels, many of which are reversible (allowing two different faces to be flipped to expose complimentary colors) make a delightful contemporary statement for home or office adornment.

Local"s have said that Baenziger"s photographs reflect views of the real Verde Valley landscape, which dedicated hikers have experienced.  His images reflect over 100 hours of hiking each month in the Sedona, Verde Valley, and northern Arizona countryside.  Peter"s observations are close up and personal, showing his fascination with the textures and colors of the landscape, especially trees, plants, and rocks.  Reminding us of why we so enjoy the sanctity of the high desert, his images are available in several sizes including greeting cards.

The Holiday Open Studio is scheduled from 11-5 pm on Friday, December 4th , and Saturday, December 5th, 2009.   Madole Road is directly off State Route 89A just west of Safeway Plaza in West Sedona.  Watch for signs on the north side of 89A which direct to parking adjacent to the studio at 255 Madole.  Wheelchair accessible.

Free gift wrapping is available on request, as well as munchies.  Shoppers and folks simply interested in seeing the work are invited to join us this weekend, for a cup of java, or just to chat.

The Durkee-Baenziger studio will also be open on Saturday December 12th and Saturday, December 19th, from 11-5pm, up until Christmas.  Phone 203.5702 for other times.   Select work by Durkee and Baenziger is represented at the Sedona Arts Center Gallery, the Red Rock State Park Gift Shop, Kinion Fine Art Gallery, and Jerona Java Café in Cottonwood, where their artwork is available year round.
